2019... What's it going to be?
I would love to know how people intend to change their life over a simple shift in time.
A magical new year appears and all of a sudden people shift focus back on their health, wealth and goals. With great intentions and no to very minimal action, the year rolls around again and the same people complain about another very stagnant year that has passed them by.
Let’s shift our focus to something a little closer to fitness and health…
What’s it going to be this year? What are you going to change this year so it doesn’t repeat like all the other years?
Is it join a gym?
Start martial arts?
Get a trainer?
Try the latest craze?
Fad diets or new methods?
Same old shit, just in different forms
What is going to push you to get so uncomfortable, that you start to learn more about yourself? That’s right, what’s going to challenge you so much that you are forced to grow from the experience? You see, we fight or flight most things and then we stay in our comfort zones. What do I mean by that?
We throw ourselves in these situations like joining a gym. We stay and fight until two things happen. We love the gym and stick around, or we flee never to come back. We flee to come back to our comfort zones which is never a good thing. But if we stay for a while, we starting hitting comfort zones again. Allow me to elaborate.
We get comfortable in what was once a very uncomfortable place. They may come in forms of say, a class, a group of people, a trainer, a certain area of the gym, sticking to one or two styles of training with similar progress, etc. We made what was an uncomfortable situation, flipped it and found a little nest and stopped our growth. So, ill let you in on a game plan I made for myself this year.
2017 – Stabilize – Having a toddler and baby on the way, renovating a house and running a business, I had a bit on my plate. I had to accept the situation and stabilize my training and nutrition which meant, no real growth. None! Just finding some balance in life was a task and that’s where my energy went.
2018 – Standard - Creating a standard for me with no to low sleep for 3 quarters of the year was tough but I managed to push through. Toward the second half of the year it got easier and my plan of stabilizing, then creating a new standard was finally paying off. Patience was something I had to work on so it took all of my energy to stay focused.
2019 – Uncomfortable – This year is the year to get extremely uncomfortable. Push my barriers physically and dive straight into the deep end. I am signing up to 5+ events this year, all physically demanding and all out of my comfort zone. Things I will learn a lot from and grow as a person. I am preparing as we speak and I look forward to challenges that will mould me into a new person.
There is nothing great about comfort zones. There is nothing more to discover in them. There is no growth within the walls.
Expand the walls of your comfort zone and get ready to start expanding your mind.
